Four Charged with Insurance Fraud for Staging Fake Bear Attacks in Bear Costume

Every single day, just when we think we have seen it all, the internet proves us wrong and surprises us.

According to Helen Jeong of NBC Los Angeles, 26-year-old Ruben Tamrazian of Glendale, CA, 39-year-old Ararat Chirkinian of Glendale, CA, 32-year-old Vahe Muradkhanyan of Glendale, CA, and 39-year-old Alfiya Zuckerman of Valley Village, CA were arrested and charged with insurance fraud and conspiracy in November 2024.

The four had requested an insurance payout for their 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost, claiming that a bear had entered the car and caused interior damage to the vehicle in Lake Arrowhead, CA on January 28, 2024.

Security camera footage was provided, and upon review, the insurance company immediately suspected fraud.

Jeong writes that, “‘Upon further scrutiny of the video, the investigation determined the bear was actually a person in a bear costume,’ the Department of Insurance said in a statement.”

It turns out, investigators identified two very similar claims that had been filed with two other insurance companies, on the same date, at the same location, however, for two different vehicles to include a 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and a 2022 Mercedes E350. Both of these claims cited bears entering and damaging the vehicles. Here’s the kicker…the same surveillance footage was submitted for all claims.

According to Jeong, “To prove that it was actually not a bear damaging the three cars in the video, a biologist from the Department of Fish and Wildlife was brought in to review the footage, and “‘They also opined it was clearly a human in a bear suit.’”

They certainly weren’t smart enough to dispose of the evidence either, because the bear costume in question was recovered from the suspects’ homes.

The fraudulent claims totaled $141,839 from the insurance companies.
